We had an exciting visitor in class today! Ben Franklin the famous inventor of well almost everything came to speak to the class today! He insisted he came back from the dead just to answer our questions and give us a history lesson on the American Revolution. Ben Franklin is an incredibly important man in history, he is one of the Founding Fathers, and he also signed the Declaration of Independence. Franklin was not a foot soldier, he was more of a soldier in government negotiating what rights the people should have.
Here is a picture of Ben Franklin and my class :)
In class, we all discussed our very own artifact bags, and Ben helped!
Here is a visual sample of mine! Scroll down slowly!
Open up the bag and see what's inside! |
Unwrap the first artifact! |
Do you know what this is? |
Unwrap the second artifact! |
Can you figure out what this is? |
Time to put all the pieces together! |
What does this have to do with anything?? |
Can you guess what all of these artifacts have to do with?

The first one is the Liberty Bell, the second is the United States Two Dollar Bill, and the third is Fireworks.
They all have to do with the Declaration of Independence!
If you guessed that then you were right :)
Why do teachers use artifact bags? Teachers use artifact bags, because they are a great way to introduce a topic in your unit. They are creative, encourage students to explore the topic and do research on the artifacts, it's engaging, value-based, and allows students to apply concepts in contexts and expand their skills. I can't wait to use artifact bags in my classroom. This activity was incredibly fun and made history more interesting for students who are not fond of it.
